PDF editor for Mac

Preview can annotate; Acrobat wants a subscription; every "free online editor" wants your file on its server. The Mac app fills the gap in between: a complete PDF editor that runs entirely on your machine.

Haven PDF for Mac is the same editor as the website, packaged as a native app: double-click any PDF to open it, edit text, sign, compress, convert, OCR — with the file never leaving your device. Download it free, set it as your default PDF app, and it keeps working with the Wi-Fi off.

Made for the Mac, not just wrapped

Double-click opens a quick preview window; ⌘E promotes it to the full editor. There is a real menu bar with shortcuts, native Save As panels (not silent downloads), Recent Documents, drag & drop, printing, dark mode that follows the system, and automatic updates. Set it as the default PDF app from the app menu, or Finder → Get Info → Open with → Change All.

Offline is the point, not a fallback

The whole editor ships inside the app — pdf-lib, the pdf.js renderer, the compression and OCR engines. Nothing is fetched from a server to open, edit or export a document. That means it works on a plane, in a SCIF, or on a machine with no network at all; and it means no copy of your contract exists anywhere but your disk.

The same tools as the website

Edit existing text, add images and shapes, sign, fill and flatten forms, redact (truly removed on export), merge/split/reorder pages, compress to an exact target size, OCR scans into searchable PDFs, convert Word ↔ PDF, protect or unlock with a password. Anything shipped on havenpdf.com is in the next Mac build automatically — it is one codebase.

Apple Silicon and Intel

One universal download runs natively on both. macOS 11 Big Sur and later. Free, with no account, no watermark and no page limits.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Mac app really free?
Yes — the same free product as the website, no account, no trial and no watermark on exports.
Can I make it my default PDF app?
Yes. Use “Make default PDF app” in the Haven PDF menu, or in Finder select a PDF, press ⌘I, choose Haven PDF under “Open with” and click “Change All”.
Does it work without internet?
Completely. The editor is bundled in the app; only update checks and optional OCR language downloads use the network.
How do updates work?
The app checks for updates in the background and installs them after your confirmation — no App Store required.
