What’s New

Haven PDF ships continuously. This page lists the highlights — everything runs 100% in your browser and your files are never uploaded.

September 2026 — Linux, and apps on every desktop

Haven PDF now ships as a native app on Linux (AppImage, .deb and .rpm) alongside macOS, Windows and Android — the same editor, fully offline, free. Every channel is built from one codebase and released on the same version, so a feature that lands on the website is in the next app build.

September 2026 — Guides grounded in measurement

A new guides section publishes what we can actually measure rather than repeat. We decomposed 22 public documents (1,726 pages) to find where a PDF’s bytes really go — in files under 1 MB the median image share is 0%, and fonts are the majority — and demonstrated why a black rectangle is not redaction by extracting the “redacted” text straight back out. The analysis scripts are in the repository so the measurements can be reproduced.

June 2026 — Pro editing

Double-clicking existing PDF text now performs TRUE deletion (not a cover-up): original glyphs are removed from the content stream and the page stays vector. Find & Replace works document-wide with real deletion. Tiled images are selected as a whole. Editable text/images highlight on hover; text and images can be rotated.

June 2026 — Viewer & comments

Page text can be selected with the mouse and copied (Ctrl+C). A hand tool and Space-drag panning arrived. The new Comments panel lists notes and exports them as standards-compliant PDF annotations visible in Adobe Acrobat and every other reader.

June 2026 — OCR & Office

Scanned PDFs convert to SEARCHABLE PDFs via OCR (invisible text layer; 30+ languages). Word (.docx) converts to PDF and PDF to Word — zero servers, zero uploads. Header/footer and Bates numbering support {page}, {total}, {date}, {filename} variables; PDFs can be inserted after any chosen page.
